Switzerland’s economic location can only be strengthened sustainably with an independent economic policy, according to the cross-party committee.

The European Union is endangering the Swiss model of success based on direct democracy, independence and openness to the world, believes an interparty committee. To prevent Switzerland from passively joining the EU, he launched the “Compass” initiative.

The EU endangers the attractiveness of the Swiss economic center, wrote the initiators on Monday, the vast majority from German-speaking countries from the economy, the PLR or the UDC. Brussels wants to impose its laws on Switzerland without the population being able to freely participate in decisions, continues the committee.

The Swiss economic center can only be strengthened sustainably with an autonomous economic policy, according to the committee. Switzerland must be able to freely choose its trading partners. A “monopoly relationship with the EU” must be prevented.

The popular initiative “For direct democracy and the competitiveness of our country – against Switzerland as a passive member of the EU (Boussole initiative)” was launched on October 1. Its authors have a year and a half to collect 100,000 signatures.
