Meet Florence Cathiard, co-owner of Château Smith Haut Lafitte, to discover all its secrets.

How can we talk about Château Smith Haut Lafitte without mentioning the Cathiard family? Florence and Daniel have brought back to life this essential place in -Léognan, located in Martillac, a stone’s throw south of . It was in 1985 that the couple settled there and began a progressive but intense revolution: modernization of the cellars, transition to organic then biodynamic agriculture, development of wine tourism with the creation of a hotel that is a benchmark in the region. , the Sources de Caudalie, and so many other things… With the main objective, of course, of highlighting this magnificent terroir of Günzian gravel (alluvial gravel soils, deposited on a limestone base).

In one piece and spread over 87 ha, the Château Smith Haut Lafitte estate stands out as an ecosystem rich in forests, orchards, beehives… The vines occupy 80 ha, the majority of which are Cabernet Sauvignon. The wines are complex, aromatic and you can feel the limestone signature of the terroir. In around ten years, we have observed a change in the style of the wines: the intensity and woodiness of yesteryear have given way to greater freshness and purity, without abandoning the aromatic complexity which is the signature of the château.
