In the Comoros, Mohamed Daoudou, the leader of the Orange party, was arrested on Tuesday April 30. Azali Assoumani’s former Interior Minister is accused of wanting to disrupt the president’s inauguration ceremony on May 26. The gendarmerie accuses him of having wanted to organize a road blockade. A few days earlier, the government already announced that no demonstrations would be tolerated.

Mohamed Daoudou, nicknamed “kiki”, came in third position in the presidential election on January 14. Among the opposition candidates, he is the one who most contested the results of the vote. The former loyalist of the president unsuccessfully filed appeals with the Supreme Court and then with the African Court of Human Rights.

He claims to have around a hundred reports of fraud, with videos, some of which show ballot stuffing. He insists that the vote should be canceled and new elections organized. Mohamed Daoudou is not the only political opponent behind bars. For three weeks, the opposition spokesperson has been in prison, again on charges of plotting to disturb public order. At the beginning of January, one of the opponents was imprisoned on suspicion of a coup d’état.
