On Saturday April 20, the French racing championship for radio-controlled cars powered by a fuel cell running on hydrogen, the H2GP (or Hydrogen Grand Prix), was held in Marmande. This championship was won by the Hydroteam team made up of young people from Cugnaux, Plaisance-du-Touch and . For months, the four young drivers aged 13 to 17 and their two ambassadors prepared for this 4-hour endurance race. To put the odds on their side, they had to design their own hydrogen car and develop their creativity and ingenuity to solve all the problems encountered in the preparation.

They also had to develop intelligent strategies that would allow them to survive the four hours of racing.

Two young people from the Hydroteam team are enrolled in general primary school at the Lycée Françoise de Tournefeuille: Maxime Pomarede and Jules Fougères.

The two other young people making up this team are Jules’ brother, Gabin Fougères, and his friend Raphaël Bordry. Passionate about model building, three of them are members of the TTMBC model club in Tournefeuille and members of the French Federation of Radio Controlled Cars.

Renewable energy education approach

The H2GP program is part of an international approach to education in renewable energies, and the Hydroteam team has qualified for the international final which will take place in September in the States (www.h2grandprix.com/h2gp-pro -world-final/t1453). Four continents will be represented during the final and already around twenty countries around the world are involved in this educational program. “What pride to know that France will be represented by a team from our region! As ambassadors and parents of the young people of the Hydroteam RC team, we have of course launched today a process of creating an association for carry out actions aimed at enabling these young people to represent and France at this final. Our young people are French champions in the discipline, but they must now find the financial resources and support of their community to succeed. to go to the final in the United States and be able to represent their city, their region, and their country with pride and confidence” explains Maxime’s mother.

The team is now looking for funding to help them realize this dream, the amount of which is around €20,000. To do this, they created an association (H2RC France) and took steps in particular with the town hall of Tournefeuille, which agreed to analyze the file.
