This Wednesday, May 1, the various unions called for demonstrations in Alsace with different slogans: the defense of employment and purchasing power, peace, a united Europe.
In Alsace, three events are being organized this Wednesday morning in Strasbourg, Colmar and Mulhouse.
The march started at 10:30 a.m. in Strasbourg. According to the inter-union, May 1st in Strasbourg brought together between 2,500 and 3,000 people at the start of the demonstration. The main slogans are the fight against austerity and a Europe of united workers. The inter-union brings together the CFDT, the CGT, FSU, FO and the UNSA. That is, all the main unions except the CFTC, which is not marching in the Bas Rhin this May 1st. They are joined by student unions like the newly formed Strasbourg Student Alternative.
“We demand to live better”
In Colmar, around a hundred demonstrators took to the streets this Wednesday morning in Colmar, mainly at the call of the CFTC and the CGT. “We demand to live better,” says Jean-Marc Michalak, of the local union of the CGT who denounces additional reductions in rights planned by the government, in particular the reduction from 18 to 12 months of the maximum duration of compensation or the degression of allocations.
The procession, which also included some members of the socialist party (PS) of the territorial FSU, crossed part of the city center before converging in front of the prefecture.
