Phoenix

Get ready to enjoy this small cantoche on rue Saint-Lazare. A typical Chinese address where great dishes to share (or not) come together. We happily dip our chopsticks into spicy lobster, sliced Sichuan-flavored chicken, grilled beef with black pepper, stewed pork… The little extra? You can also treat yourself at a low price with a very complete lunch menu at €12.50. To be enjoyed in a small group in the small cozy room on the ground floor or in large tables upstairs with rotating tables and tutti quanti.

WENZHOU The Chinese Canteen

The Wenzhou restaurant, opened in 1992, was founded by Mr. Jinda XU, the father of Alexandre XU. An institution you might say! Almost 30 years for this little boui-boui on rue de Belleville where you can enjoy typical dishes: ravioli to die for and a soy pasta/ground beef dish that won over the whole neighborhood! Come on, everyone, go and have fun. A restaurant with no shortage of ideas. For the record, this is where we had our post-closing lunches, 10 years ago already!

Big Bao

The address favorite of all lovers of neo-Asian dishes. Here we find some of the Bao Family classics – such as baozi or chao fan – but the stars of the house are no longer the little steamers that you can find on rue Saint-Denis but the steamed fish and a Pekingese duck served whole to share with a few friends and to enjoy in delicious little pancakes. The little extra? We devour all this on the banks of the Saint-Martin canal, for a good meal along the water.

Condorcet delight

This is one of those secrets that we would like to keep to ourselves, but it is impossible not to share the slap in the face that Délice de Condorcet represents, this little Chinese nugget that we don’t make anymore. We are served noodles of all absolutely divine colorsaccompanied by small vegetables, and a bunch of rainbow ravioli in pastel colors so cute that we don’t dare bite into them. The ravioli dough is thin and delicate, and the fillings (pork, beef, shrimp or vegetarian) are exquisite. We can’t believe our palate because the tastes are so surprising.

Three times more chili

Sensitive taste buds, stay away from this address, because as its name suggests, here chili is in the spotlight. Little brother of “Two times as much pepper”, this second address is specialized in noodles and dumplings, in a modern setting with pretty wooden tables and ceramic glasses. And as far as the pepper is concerned, the most fearful can always opt for the Szechuan ravioli with melting and elastic homemade dough, the pepper remains largely bearable.

Noodle Belts

Here, you choose the width of your noodles, your broth, vegetarian or carnivorous, spicy or not. We fall for Biang Biang noodles, house specialtythe cheapest (€9.80) but the best, they say. Noodle belts XXL, super-wide for an over-developed delicacy, boiling chili oil, garlic, coriander, chives, Chinese cabbage, all in a little spicy broth of which the house has the secret. It’s hot, you slurp, it flows down your throat, you melt. The broth is perfect, the quality pepper does not take over the entire palate, it delicately enhances an already harmonious dish.

Mian Guan

Do you hear this noise? These are the noodles, being prepared at the minute, directly before our eyes. We see them, in the distance in the kitchen, spreading the elastic dough by making a rocking movement from top to bottom causing it to slam against the work surface. All this, with the strength of the arms. If the boui-boui doesn’t look like much, observing them in action is impressive and even rather captivating. Happiness is complete when noodles cradled in a big broth, umami as desired. Served in different thicknesses and with all sauces, they instantly warm the taste buds. Big special mention for the fried noodles with soy-marinated pork. You will become addicted!
