Mixed European Championships for the Genevans

Mixed European Championships for the Genevans
Descriptive text here

Two European Championships with four Geneva athletes took place at the end of last week. Three rowers and a judoka lined up in Hungary and Croatia respectively.

Honor to Célia Dupré and Sofia Meakin who were entered in the 4 pairs with their teammates Lisa Loetscher and Fabienne Schweizer. And a small disappointment, the Swiss finished in 5th place. However, the Swiss boat was in 2nd position throughout the first part of the race. But the four rowers did not manage to maintain this rank. They finished more than 3 seconds from the podium. We remind you that in this quadruple scull, Célia Dupré has practically secured her place for the Games while Sofia Meakin is still on waivers.

Another Geneva rower was also in the running

This is Eline Rol, in a lightweight double pair. With teammate Olivia Nacht, they finished in 6th place. The gap with the rest of the fleet was too high for the two rowers during this A final. Eline Rol does not yet have her ticket for the Olympic Games. She will try to obtain it in May near Lucerne.

Bonferroni struggling in judo

Last week, the European Judo Championships were not successful for Aurélien Bonferroni either. He told us a few weeks ago that the Genevan was aiming for a medal at these Europeans in Zagreb. But his journey ended in the round of 16 against the Turkish Vedat Albayrak, reigning European champion. A defeat in a contested fight which was decided by golden score. We listen to Aurélien Bonferroni’s reaction following these European Championships.

Aurélien Bonferroni’s objective is logically Olympic qualification. To do this, he will have to accumulate points in order to consolidate his ranking. With this in mind, the month of May is going to be busy with two Grand Slams to come in Tajikistan and Kazakstan. And then on May 21, Aurélien Bonferroni will face international competition during the World Championships in Abu Dhabi.
