The population of Gouye Mouride, civil society actors and market gardeners of Lendeng came out en masse this Sunday to safeguard the Agro-ecological zone of Lendeng. Originally, these market gardeners have been opposing for several weeks the construction of a gas station and a football field in the middle of their fields, an area declared a non-aedificandi (non-buildable) zone by the president. Macky Sall for 3 years. These are two real estate developers, Rufisquois who have been eyeing this land for years. When the market gardeners contacted the mayor, the latter said that he had signed the authorization to occupy without knowing that this encroached on the land base. The root of the problem, according to the market gardeners, is the Mayor who issued this authorization to build a service station in a zone declared agro-ecological by a circular from the Head of State.
However, the Mayor had promised the market gardeners several times that he would never sign an authorization in the Lendeng fields because of its destination.
