Call for support for residents of 7 rue Baudin in Pré-Saint-Gervais

For more than a week, the migrant collective UNIBETON has had a new home (it is a collective that was expelled from Île-Saint-Denis last year because of the Olympics).

Come support us against the police’s threats of expulsion!

-> Meet now in front of the building because the police may come this afternoon
-> Meet every morning at 6 a.m. for an anti-eviction breakfast until May 5
-> Meet all week long at the various workshops and discussions organized as part of the Intersquat festival

PRESS RELEASE

a year of hardship, a new house to defend!

We are a collective of migrants. For 2 years, we lived in an empty building on Île-Saint-Denis. But on April 26, 2023, the prefecture decided to expel us. We attempted negotiations to obtain accommodation. We were not listened to. Most people found themselves with very short-term accommodation solutions (less than a week) or on the street.
If we were evicted, it was not because the owners needed to use the building. In fact, today it is still empty.

This expulsion was part of the social cleansing objectives of 93 because of the Games. For the arrival of tourists, they want what they call a “clean” city. This means the destruction of our living spaces: hunting down undocumented immigrants and people on the streets, destruction of camps, eviction of squats… Generally speaking, many squats in 93 have been evicted over the past year. For tenants it is also difficult, the number of rental evictions has increased and we fear the worst with more and more people at risk of ending up on the street.

After the eviction, we continued to fight for our rights and we managed to occupy a building in -sous-bois this summer. But we were once again evicted, and we received no help or accommodation solutions from the town hall or the prefecture.

For several days, we have been occupying a new place in Pré-Saint-Gervais, and for that, we need support against the police who risk trying to evict us.

Indeed, on April 4, 2023, the Kasbarian-Bergé law, known as the anti-squat law, was adopted. This repressive law criminalizes squatters and aims to increase the number of evictions of precarious tenants. With this law, it has become more and more difficult to open new squats even though it is one of our only means of having access to accommodation.

A roof for all!
