An inmate from the Buffalo Sage Healing House, a prison authority in Edmonton, Alberta, has escaped and is being sought by authorities.

Eugenia Herman, 31, is currently serving a two-year sentence for possession of a prohibited firearm with ammunition, assault with a weapon, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 and theft of a motor vehicle.

Staff at Buffalo Sage Healing House discovered that Eugenia Herman was missing on Saturday.

Eugenia Herman is 31 years old, 163 cm (5″4) tall and weighs 57 kg (126 lbs). She has a medium-dark complexion, brown eyes and brown hair and multiple tattoos, including:

• A red and black leopard on the neck

• A red armband on his left arm

• DEER on his right shoulder

• “For those I love I will sacrifice” on his right arm

• “Loco” on his right forearm

• A rose on her right calf

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Eugenia Herman is asked to contact police.

Native Counseling Services of Alberta and Correctional Service Canada (CSC) will investigate the circumstances surrounding this incident and are working with the police service to locate the offender as quickly as possible.

Buffalo Sage Healing House is a prison authority where staff and elders from Indigenous communities help women offenders prepare to return to the community and make positive changes in their lives. An approach seeking to create a correctional plan focused on holistic and spiritual rehabilitation and the improvement of self-esteem is prioritized.
