Every two years, the Young Farmers (JA) renew their elected representatives. At the beginning of March, it was Rémi Dumas who took the reins of the departmental union, 28 years after another resident of the village, Jérôme Despey.

Rémi took over the family wine business in 2004.

He has been associated with Pascal Conge since 2023, and jointly raises a flock of dairy sheep (the Entre-Vignes sheepfold) in addition to his vines. During his previous mandate, he was vice-president at the national level of this union. He is also elected to the department’s Chamber of .

It was on his farm, with the general secretary of Young Farmers Annabelle Decoursière, that they recently presented the roadmap and the challenges of the mandate which is beginning. “We must live from the sale of our products and regain dignity and investment capacity to succeed in environmental transitions and create jobs. The attractiveness of the professions will be stronger and the facilities more numerous”, declares Rémi.

“Spark vocations”

The attractiveness and promotion of these professions in the school environment are strong issues that elected officials want to push in the department with the monitoring of the installation and transfer of operations. “We must show the reality of careers to young people to encourage vocations.” Climate change is also pushing young people to consider the question of farm diversification and their support. Very mobilized at the start of the year, farmers continue to put forward their demands, particularly to parliamentarians in view of the agricultural law in preparation. Young people who believe in the future of French agriculture and are investing in promoting it.
