Descriptive text here

Pianist Xavier Rousseau, aka Rousso, will present some of his compositions on Saturday, May 18 at the Cinquième salle at Place des Arts, in the heart of downtown .

Titled Rousso’s musicthe representation promises to be most unique for those who grew up in Fabreville West.

Indeed, for the first time, the pianist will be accompanied on stage by a double bassist and a violinist from the Orchester Métropolitain de Montréal, Pierre-Alexandre Maranda and Ryan Truby, very good friends of his and former roommates.

Half of the pieces taken from the albums Iceberg And Rosemont will therefore be played in groups.

“Really, I want it to be fun, interesting and unique. You can’t hear one of my pieces with violin and double bass anywhere else. Those who know my pieces will recognize them, but it will be an interpretation that is out of the ordinary.”

The pianist adds that he finds his two musician friends so good that he will probably invite them to his next album.

Big goals

As this big date approaches, Rousso says he is most confident.

“For me, the important thing is to work on doing things differently for the people who come back to see me on stage, to surprise them. The biggest challenge in the end, with this room, is that there is a bigger technical team and more lighting.”

The musician had already played in the Claude-Léveillée room last year. His ultimate goal, however, remains to one day be able to play in the Salle Wilfrid Pelletier or at the Maison Symphonique. He is of course aware that there is a long way to go.

“Basically, my long-term goal is to do all the rooms at Place des Arts.”

Recognition Award

Last summer, Xavier Rousseau received the André-Gagnon prize given to the instrumental composer of the year by the Professional Society of Authors and Composers of Quebec (SPACQ).

“What’s really good is that I didn’t apply for that. They looked for a winner, they found me on the internet and they chose me.”

To pay tribute to his idol André Gagnon and to echo the prize he received, the artist explains that he will surely play one of his compositions during the May 18 performance.

The representation of Rousso’s music will take place on Saturday, May 18, from 8 p.m., at the Cinquième salle at Place des Arts (75, rue Sainte-Catherine Ouest, Montréal)
