For some time, the use of glutathione has caused enormous damage with deadly skin cancers. Dr Hadi Hakim, dermatologist, looked into the issue a few weeks ago on the 2S Tv show Encore+.

“Glutathione is sold in pharmacies and not elsewhere”

“Glutathione is a medicine that is sold in pharmacies and no one has the right to sell it outside the pharmacy. Otherwise, it is called street drugs. It is a product that is used for neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s. It is an injection to treat the patient. But when it is injected into a patient, there is a side effect since it makes the patient’s skin light. This is why I say that these are products that cannot be sold anywhere, much less injected into a person who does not suffer from these aforementioned diseases. Because this product is not purified for blood. Then there is a protocol for taking it. We cannot inject it every day, much less every two days. Because it can cause several complications. When the skin lightens, while you’re in Africa, there’s the sun and that can cause skin cancer. This is why the rate of skin cancer is very high on the continent, particularly in . This is also the case among Europeans who are in which has the same climate as Senegal. As a result, the leading cause of illness in Australia is melano, that is to say skin cancer and this is what we started to have in Senegal. You should avoid lightening products as much as possible.

“Those who prescribe glutathione are neither nurses nor doctors”

“The observation is there. It can be found on the parallel market, on the street. There are even some who, openly, sell it on Facebook, Tik-tok, Instagram at prices varying between 50,000 FCFA and 200,000 FCFA. However, these people are neither nurses, doctors or health professionals in general. The day you have a complication, they run away from their responsibilities. We, as doctors, if we perform a medical procedure, we fully assume all our responsibility.”

“We do not know of any doctor who injects glutathione into a person”

“Regarding the injection of glutathione for xessal, we dermatologists in Senegal, until today, we do not know of any dermatologist or doctor who injects glutathione into a person. I can’t even imagine it for a single moment. Personally I do not prescribe this medication to anyone. And 99.9% of the dermatologists I know ditto. Because we are against voluntary lightening. We are also fighting, within the framework of an association called the International Association of Information on Artificial Depigmentation (Aida) against this scourge. Because we are tired in our consultations of seeing the complications that depigmentation causes in this country. However, our role is to treat dermatology problems and not the complications of depigmentation.”

“Injecting corticosteroids into the buttocks can cause obesity, diabetes or hypertension”

“Regarding corticosteroids, it is also a medicine that can only be obtained in a pharmacy. It is an excellent medicine to treat several diseases. For example, cases of extreme Covid, diseases like lupus or osteoarthritis. Furthermore, contrary to popular belief, when you are injected with corticosteroids into your buttocks every day or every week or even every month, it does not make them grow bigger. But it causes obesity and after a few weeks, you will have diabetes, partial hypertension, stretch marks, difficulty healing, low birth weight. It’s true that you will have very clear skin, but is it worth ending up with so many diseases. The answer is no”
