Armed assault in Sainte-Angèle: a man accused of attempted murder

A 23-year-old man arrested Thursday in connection with the armed attack that occurred in Sainte-Angèle-de-Mérici faces three charges. Likenson Grégoire was charged with attempted murder, possession of a restricted weapon and possession of an unauthorized weapon in a motor vehicle.

The accused appeared by videoconference at the Rimouski courthouse on Friday morning. His release hearing was set for May 13. The other suspect in this story, a 28-year-old woman, has not yet appeared in court.

According to the Sûreté du Québec, the two individuals showed up at the victim’s home in Sainte-Angèle-de-Mérici on Thursday morning and shot her at point blank range. She was taken to hospital where her condition stabilized.

The suspects immediately fled and were intercepted in the Trois-Pistoles area an hour later. A large police deployment was launched in the region to find the suspects’ vehicle.

A 9 mm caliber pistol was seized by the police.

Individuals known to the police

The three people involved in this event are known to the police. In the past, the accused was notably convicted of attempted murder last year for events that occurred in Montreal in 2020. Likenson Grégoire was also found guilty of assault in 2021.

There S.Q. said Thursday that it was still too early to forge the bond that unites the three individuals. She also does not draw a parallel between this event and the wave of crimes resulting from the armed conflicts between the Hells Angels and street gangs in Quebec.
