La commodity, whose value “could reach 50 million euros”, was discovered this Friday April 26 in the port of Algeciras, in the south of Spain, the two organizations said in a joint press release.
They were hidden in “22 wooden crates” inside the truck which, according to documents presented to authorities, was supposed to transport melons to Perpignan, in the south of France.
According to the press release, it was a civil guard working with a sniffer dog who sounded the alert. A thorough inspection of the truck was then launched, which led to the discovery of a large quantity of bales of hashish.
The quantity seized is estimated at “25 tons”, “which would constitute the largest seizure of this substance on the road network” Spanish “since 2015”, indicates the press release.
At the time, the authorities had seized nearly 48 tons of hashish, still hidden in trucks, and also in Algeciras, add the Civil Guard and customs authorities. Spain is considered the main entry point for Moroccan hashish into Europe.
