The victim’s body was found on April 18, bearing numerous wounds, in his home in this small village in the south of the department. Objects, such as his phone and bank card, had been stolen. The man, who knew the victim, was arrested and taken into custody on Tuesday. He initially denied the theft and murder, “before admitting to them”.

Already convicted three times

The suspect has already been convicted three times, notably for theft and violence with the use or threat of a weapon. According to The Republican Eastthe victim, aged 76, mother of two children, had lived alone since the death of her partner five years ago.

According to the prosecution, she was hit on the back and left side “by a sharp or prickly object”. She was also injured in the back of the head “by means of an incense burner trinket” of which debris was found nearby.
