Yannick Lefèbvre and Jan Heuninck finished in second place in the medal race, the last regatta on the program which brings together the top ten in the ranking and where the points are doubled. The duo has 91 points to 88 for the Germans Jakob Meggendorfer and Andreas Spranger.

Yannick Lefèbvre has already experienced the joys of the Olympics, in Rio in 2016 with Tom Pelsmaekers, missing out on a place then qualifying for the Tokyo Olympics.

Yannick Lefèbvre and Jan Heuninck have formed a new duo since February last year. “We haven’t been sailing together for very long,” Yannick Lefèbre explained to the organizers. “We lost two months last February and March because Jan broke his foot, but we stayed calm trying to build on the fundamentals and be fresh for the regattas. It’s fantastic.”

“I’m super happy, it’s been a fantastic week. It’s an honor to be here and to have sailed so well,” added Jan Heuninck. The duo, affiliated with the French-speaking sailing federation, confirmed that they would compete together in the Olympics where the sailing events will take place in Marseille.

This 55th edition of French Olympic Week is divided into two. Regattas bring together the boats already qualified for the Olympics, a second race is made up of the non-qualified fleet.

Emma Plasschaert in ILCA 6 and a quota place in ILCA 7 won by William De Smet, are also assured of the Olympics. Isaura Maenhaut and Anouk Geurts are qualified in 49erFX for Paris.
