The Senegalese authorities launched on Thursday, September 19, the 3e edition of the digital back-to-school season. It took place under the theme “Developments in artificial intelligence in the face of employment challenges”.

Bitilokho Ndiaye (photo), director of the promotion of the digital economy and partnership, an entity of the Ministry of Digital Economy and Telecommunications, declared on Thursday, September 19, during the 3e edition of the digital back-to-school period, that Senegal has begun its transition to AI. According to her, this transition cannot be done without an overhaul of the national training system.

“Our country has already made the shift to AI, but it is essential that we accelerate these transitions by ensuring that no one is left behind, and this includes overhauling our training system,” said Bitilokho Ndiaye.

AI has emerged as one of the key technologies of digital transformation in recent years. According to the Global Association of Mobile Phone Operators (GSMA), which cites the AI4D Africa program, Africa represents only 2.5% of the global artificial intelligence (AI) market, but emerging applications could boost the continent’s economic growth to the tune of $2.9 trillion by 2030.

“We cannot afford to miss this revolution because AI offers invaluable opportunities to improve productivity, innovate in public services and respond to local challenges such as the use of resources for universal access to quality care,” adds Bitilokho Ndiaye.
