In 2024, the majority of French municipalities (82%) have chosen not to increase their property tax rate. This means that only the basic rate will increase for a majority of owners (3.9%). But other municipalities (16.7%) have chosen to increase. This is the case of Parempuyre in Gironde. There, the property tax will increase by 25% in 2024. A measure that is not going down well, we learn France Blue Gironde .

With this increase, the municipality north of Bordeaux ranks in the top 10 for the highest property tax increases in the territory. “When I saw that, I said to myself, this is not possible, says the owner of a 90 m² house in the town. I went from €1,600 to €1,980. That’s €400 more. It’s still excessive. In the neighborhood, no one understands this increase.”In twenty years, the property tax in Parempuyre had only increased once, in 2021.
€800,000 less in state funding
The municipal opposition believes that if taxpayers have to pay, it is because the municipality’s investment capacity has been overestimated. The town hall is well aware that this measure is painful. But it explains it by a reduction in state subsidies of €800,000 in ten years, and constantly increasing expenses. “For example, for electricity, we go from €200,000 to €400,000 between 2018 and 2024. Same thing for gas. In addition, we no longer have the fiscal lever with the housing tax.”defends Benjamin Dervieux, first deputy in charge of finances.
With this 25% increase, an additional million euros will fill the coffers of the municipality. Other French municipalities have chosen an even larger increase this year. In Dembeni, in Martinique, the increase is 42.6%. In Sommières in the Gard, it reaches 40.9%, and 40% in Myans (Savoie). In La Verpillière (Isère), Le Coudray-Montceaux (Essonne), Monnaie (Indre-et-Loire), Pithiviers (Loiret) and Oudon (Loire-Atlantique), the increase exceeds 25%.
