After the first outing in Lagrasse on November 30, 2023, the Cultural Circle took around twenty members to a discovery day on Thursday April 4 in Sorèze, in Tarn. Entitled “Welcome to the work of Dom Robert”, they were offered a guided tour of the Abbey School and the Dom Robert museum. This school abbey has 13 centuries of history! A unique destiny which led this former Benedictine abbey to host a school in the 17th century whose reputation would quickly become international. Thanks to innovative teaching, it was designated a “Royal Military School” by Louis XVI in 1776. Many children from all over the world attended it until its closure in 1991. This visit was followed by a typical Tarn meal at the restaurant. in Dourgne. The afternoon was devoted to the discovery of the Abbey of Saint-Benoît D’En Calcat, an active Benedictine abbey which is part of the congregation of Subiaco Montecassino. It is located in the hamlet of En Calcat dependent on Dourgne. The community is, in 2021, around forty monks. The discovery day ended with a visit to the stained glass windows in Massaguel.
