What are the symptoms and how to get rid of this skin disease?

Demodecidosis most often appears in the context of rosacea, a common skin condition that affects nearly 4 million people in France according to the French Society of Dermatology (SFD). “Rosacea affects between 5 and 10% of the population,” confirms Dr. Nina Roos. “Women are particularly affected, with two women suffering from rosacea for every man. On the other hand, demodecidosis is rarer.”

Demodecidosis is a skin disease caused by the proliferation of Demodex folliculorum on the skin. This mite, which is found in hair follicles, can multiply and become pathogenic. Often, patients with demodecidosis suffer from rosacea, a dermatosis characterized by occasional or permanent redness of the skin of the face (erythrosis), small visible blood vessels (telangiectasias) and small papules, explains the dermatologist. These signs are sometimes accompanied by a burning or tingling sensation.”

Demodecidosis is mainly manifested by symptoms such as:

“Patients with demodectic mange often have rosacea and small, itchy white-headed spots: signs that are highly suggestive of demodex,” says Dr. Nina Roos. “The distribution of the lesions preferentially affects the middle part of the face, i.e. the nose, the cheeks at the same height and possibly the forehead, while acne tends to be concentrated on the lower half (…)
