Daniel Sancho Bronchalo escapes the death penalty. The son of famous actor Rodolfo Sancho, a 30-year-old cook, was found guilty by the Koh Samui court in Thailand of planning the murder of Edwin Arrieta Arteaga, a renowned plastic surgeon, in the summer of 2023.

Daniel Sancho had pleaded not guilty to the murder. “He is sad, but we cannot forget the loss of the deceased,” the lawyer added in front of dozens of Spanish reporters who had made the trip. Journalists were not allowed to enter the small courtroom. According to Spanish media, the two men exchanged on Instagram in 2022, before meeting up in Thailand, where the accused arrived as a tourist on July 31.
In early August, police reported finding body parts, including hips and thighs belonging to the surgeon, in a dump. Local media released CCTV footage showing Daniel Sancho with the victim on a motorbike shortly before the remains were found.
“The verdict has been delivered, both parties have the right to appeal,” a spokesman told reporters on the steps of the courthouse. In 2017, another Spaniard, Artur Segarra, was convicted in Thailand of murdering a businessman in Bangkok and throwing his dismembered body parts into the Chao Praya River.
