This film with Will Smith on TF1+

It was still a pivotal year for superheroes in cinema: 2008 saw the advent of The Dark Knight and Iron Man on the big screen while a third feature film, Hancock, also attempted to carve its way to fame. Starring Will Smith and directed by Peter Berg (The Leftovers, Blood and Tears), this film offered a darker and more cynical vision of the hero.. “There are heroes, there are superheroes, and then there is… Hancock. His superpowers have often saved countless lives, but the monstrous damage he causes in the process has made him unpopular.“, we can read on the synopsis.

In total, Hancock grossed $227,946,274 in the United States, for a worldwide total of $629,443,428. And despite a certain commercial success, it was quickly eclipsed by its two competitors, all the same more ambitious in terms of universe building. Hancock is of course remembered above all for its atypical main character, an alcoholic and antisocial superhero, far from the standards, which was not enough to make this film a cult and memorable work. And yet, the commercial success had hinted at the possibility of a sequel. During an interview with Comicbook in 2020, actress Charlize Theron (yes we quickly forget her, but she played well in the film) had notably expressed her to return to her role by saying that she had “talked about a sequel for a while” adding that she “would do it without hesitation”. Spoiler alert, this sequel will ultimately never happen.

If you feel like it, the film is now available for free on the TF1+ platform. Note that Netflix catalog subscribers can also enjoy it.

What else is on the platform?

The TF1+ platform currently has some little surprises in store for you, like a little-known TV movie. While the recent film Twisters rekindled the flame of this cult saga from the 90s, few viewers are aware of the existence of a direct sequel, released in 1998 and much less well-known: Twister 2: Breath of Hell. In 1996, Twister starring Bill Paxton and Helen Hunt was released to general indifference. Broadcast directly on television, this TV movie stars Kelly McGillis in the role of a meteorologist confronted with a tornado of mysterious origins. While the plot follows the codes of the first opus, the tone is lighter and more parodic. In fact, the film’s poster is almost laughable. But I’m not sure if it was done on purpose…
