It’s a hit at the cinema. Alien: Romulus surpasses its predecessors in terms of numbers.

More than $200 million

Released a few weeks earlier, Alien : Romulus is the new iteration of the cult science fiction saga, and it is already in the Top 3 of many fans of the license. In terms of numbers, it is also a success, since it even surpasses some of its predecessors.. Alien : Romulus has already grossed $225,439,383 at the global box office. A figure well above the more than $108 million collected by Alien, the eighth passengerthe first installment directed by Scott, and the more than $131 million of “Aliens,” the James Cameron film. It also ranks well above the $159 million of “Alien 3,” the third installment in the saga directed by David Fincher. Note, however, that these figures are in gross dollars. When adjusted for inflation, all three films have grossed more than Romulus so far.

A beautiful tribute to the saga

After a timid restart with Alien : Prometheus et Alien : Covenantthe Alien franchise seems to have regained its former glory in the new chapter directed by Fede Álvarez, which has won over both critics and audiences, reconnecting with the atmosphere of the first films. Asked about the possibility of a sequel, the filmmaker was open, while nevertheless insisting on the need to take one’s time and not rush things. Good news all the same, the creative team already has a few ideas in mind, but nothing is official yet. In the meantime, fans will be able to discover a television series based on the Alien universe planned for 2025, which will explore the origins of the creature on Earth.

For those who haven’t seen it yet: This new episode, cleverly placed between the first two films of the saga, invites us to follow a group of young outcasts, in search of a better life, who will find themselves confronted by the terrifying xenomorph creature. On the critics’ side, the feature film has a score of 81%, the press agreeing that it is here a “homage to its nightmarish predecessors” capable of bringing “new scares”, and adding: “Romulus injects blood and fresh acid into one of the greatest horror franchises in cinema.”
