A virtual rainbow over the Arc de Triomphe to celebrate Pride Month

UNUSUAL – A giant rainbow over the Arc de Triomphe? In a video posted by artist Ian Padgham this Thursday, June 1, the Arc de Triomphe can be seen decorated with a giant rainbow that disappears into a cloud on which is written “Pride March”. Judging by these images, it seems very real. But in reality, it is a digital work in 3D which highlights the month of pride.

Pride Month is an international celebration that takes place each year in June to remember the fight for LGBT+ rights and to commemorate the 1969 Stonewall Riots in New York, during which LGBT+ people rose up against police repression . An event considered as the starting point of the fight for the rights of these people around the world.

As you can see in the video at the top of the article, this is not the first time that the American artist has had fun with Parisian architecture. On different occasions, Ian Padgham embellished the capital, and other cities around the world, and shared the result on his social networks. Last April, he decorated several Parisian monuments with giant fish or even rolled “Bambino” bags from the Jacquemus brand on avenue de l’Opéra.

To celebrate the month of pride which is held during the month of June, the Californian held ” Act ” personally to show support for the LGBT+ community. But this trompe-l’oeil, larger than life, disturbed more than one.

Homophobic insults

On Twitter, the video has been viewed more than 2 million times. Many Internet users believed that this creation was real. In comments relayed by The Parisian, Ian Padgham deplores the lack of transparency of social networks. He would like a message to be displayed for users, when it is a digital work, in order to avoid fake news.

“When I publish my works on my account, people know what I do and know that these are works that do not exist in reality. The problem with social networks is that the videos are taken over by other accounts which do not say that it is about 3D creation”

As soon as this video was published, many homophobic comments flourished on social networks. Facts that the artist deplores: “These comments show that people from the LGBTQIA community are still not accepted and protected as they should be. »

In Île-de-France, a Pride of the suburbs will take place this Saturday, June 3 in Saint-Denis. A few days later, the Pride March will be held in Paris on June 24.
