“The desire to plunge your hands into the earth”
After having followed modeling courses for eight years in Courbevoie, with the artist Adriana PopovicNathalie Duris decided to express her talents by creating human sculptures in terracotta, measuring 30 to 50 centimeters. “I always have this desire to plunge my hands into the earth,” admits the artist who now takes lessons at the Au Grés de la Risle workshop of Saint-Philbert-sur-Risle, led by Isabelle Roger.
-Modeling a face, a body, for Nathalie Duris, is about getting closer to reality and arousing intense emotions. In Courbevoie, the artist often practiced in front of voluntary models: “When we sculpt a person in a pose, we try to reproduce what we see. In a workshop, there can be ten people in front of a model and we will have ten different ways of transcribing it. » She notes that a part of oneself is often found in sculpted faces.
In parallel with human bodies, in movement, Nathalie Duris also offers a collection of works grouped under the name “Heads with caps”. “These are decorative and useful sculpted heads because thanks to them, you no longer have to worry about where to put your hats, bucket hats or caps,” she explains.
During the end-of-year holidays, Nathalie Duris was able to exhibit several of her works for the first time at the P’tite Galerie in Honfleur (Calvados). From now on, in the Atelier des Margolites, regulars of the shop or curious visitors should not remain indifferent to its sculptures.
The works of Nathalie Duris, “Les Duos bruts de terre”, are exhibited until the end of March at the Atelier des Margolites, 85, rue de la République, in Pont-Audemer. To discover her world: Instagram Tadie_Modelage
