Originally, Parc Monceau was a green space created for Louis-Philippe d’Orléans, by the painter Carmontelle, in 18th century. A true ode to excess, it must have contained caves, a mill, a pagoda, a temple…
Finally left abandoned, a second park was created on the same location in 1860. Less incredible, it remains one of the favorite parks of Parisians, for its beauty and calm. On the border between the 8th and 17th arrondissement, Parc Monceau is a so-called “parkEnglish style“, with one side country et romanticespecially when you venture near its colonnades.
At the northern entrance to the park, rue de Courcelleswe find a neoclassical rotundasurrounded by a peristyle of 16 columns, of great beauty.
