We owe it to the Australian director Michael Gracey, who we discover under the pen of certain colleagues as a “visionary filmmaker” and who signs this biopic of the English singer Robbie Williams in the guise of a chimpanzee. It is true that Gracey, already author, in 2017, of a rather unconvincing biopic of Phineas Taylor Barnum (The Greatest Showman2017), clearly has a taste for the circus.

In any case, for those who are not familiar with the career of the English singer, which is the case in the United States, where the film is struggling to find its audience, the film tells the story of a little boy from northern England from a modest background, who does not have a very high idea of ​​himself and devotes himself to his father – a singular character, mythomaniac and mad lover of the music hall, who abandoned him at the custody of his mother – a deep feeling of admiration.
