Conferences will be offered throughout the year around themes such as the right of expression in Vietnam, democracy in the service of ecological transition, etc.
The Citizen Café of Sète is organizing, throughout 2025, a series of meetings aimed at “to encourage reflection, exchange and debate on questions such as the historical and philosophical foundations of democracy, democratic issues in Africa, ecological transition, or even the right of expression through cinema”. A festival which will be launched on Wednesday January 29, from 5:30 p.m., with an evening dedicated to the singer Jean Ferrat. These meetings will continue on Wednesday April 23 with “The sensitive case of Mali”, through the testimony of Yves Gueymard, from the Mali embassy. On May 15, the evening, planned at the Mitterrand media library, will be devoted to a film debate on the right of expression in Vietnam with director André Menras. In September, on the 17th, the philosopher Salim Mokaddem will address, at the city center media library, the philosophical, historical and legal foundations of democracy in Greece. Then it will be the turn of sociologist Laura Seguin to talk about democracy in the service of ecological transition on October 15 and journalist Alain Rollat to look at participatory democracy on November 19. Finally, this cycle of conferences will end on December 17, with Myriam Bacquelaine, Belgian ambassador, on the theme “Democracy in Africa: a challenge for the future”.
