Those who told her at the very beginning that she had no voice or stage presence are now a bit discreet. We discover Clara Luciani, a child from Septèmes-les-vallons near Marseille, a little fragile on the podium of discoveries at the Francofolies de La Rochelle in the summer of 2017. The brunette with bangs then celebrates her 25th birthday, releases a first EP noticed (“Monster of Love”). He began his solo career, after the collective La Femme then the duo Hologram.
Some songs from “Sainte-Victoire” are already there. This first album will impose the singer on the scene of a unifying French-speaking pop, direct heir of Françoise Hardy in the capacity and the appetite to integrate Anglo-Saxon know-how (British tendency) when strings and brass make take off the guitar or the original piano-voice. With the hit “La Grenade” as her standard, the elegant and natural with a maousse smile monopolizes the sales podiums and the Victoires de la Musique (revelation in 2019, then female artist in 2020 and 2022).
True-false lightness
The young woman has been writing her texts from the beginning. No whistleblower passionaria in the author of “All for Me” but a map of tenderness surveyed with sincerity and accuracy. Clara Luciani’s feminism is not brandished, it is distilled in small touches, just as effective, through doubts and imposed impasses.
After this isolated “Grenade”, the affirmation becomes stronger, when she sings on the second album “Cœur” the freedom found at the end of a toxic relationship (“Breathe again”), or the ass of her love gone to whom she leaves “The Rest”.
The clip for the latter, shot in the Jacques Demy style that she adores, symbolizes the artist well: an assumed lightness so as not to see (too much) this world in degraded mode. At his side since the first melodies, there has been Ambroise Willaume alias Sage, a gifted composer and arranger who is in great demand today. The pop goldsmith is also and of course part of the “Mon Sang” adventure alongside Max Baby.
Birth
The 13 titles of Clara Luciani’s third opus released in November 2024, grew around her unborn child then born in September 2023; double pregnancy that the artist punctuated with controlled communications. Family, love, friendship irrigate the album, between hit lurches (“Ce Vie”, “Mon Sang”) and ballads (“Chagrin d’ami”) in impeccable production, almost too much: piano, strings , perfectly poised white voice and skillfully measured textures make one hope for a more crackly varnish. For the next project?
After two crowded Parisian Olympias in December, Clara Luciani began her tour of large venues in Amiens this Saturday. This Thursday in Floirac, it will be the 4e date of a marathon tour of at least a year. She also made her screen debut in the musical “Joli Jolie” by Diastème and Beaupain in December, and sang at Notre-Dame-de-Paris for its reopening. On February 7, she will apply for three new Victories. Pop star.
Thursday January 23 (8:30 p.m.) in Floirac, Arkéa Arena. From 38 to 74 euros.
