The brass instruments of the Harmonie de Lorient orchestra (OHL), a group directed by Emmanuel Flaum, will join the bagpipes of the Bagad Sonerien an Oriant to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Liberation of Lorient in May 1945.
Rehearsals for OHL and its sixty amateur musicians, adults and students from the Lorient Conservatory, have already begun. The premiere took place recently in the presence of Didier Ropers, the musician and composer of Armanda, the piece which will be performed next May.
This memorial event will therefore have a very special resonance, literally and figuratively, as evidenced by the presence for this first rehearsal of Mathilde Leroux-Hennard, the new culture and heritage director for the city of Lorient. “His coming honors us,” declares OHL president Brigitte Marciniak, “it is a sign of the municipality’s interest in our new musical collaboration.”
Practical
Rehearsals of the Lorient Harmony Orchestra every Wednesday, from 8 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at the Maison des associations Allende, rue Colbert in Lorient.
