Leonardo García Alarcón, general and artistic director of the Cité bleue in Geneva, was named Artist of the Year by the jury of the International Classical Music Awards (ICMA). These awards are among the most renowned musical prizes on the classical scene.
General and artistic director of the Blue City of Geneva, Leonardo García Alarcón is the founder of the Cappella Mediterranea ensemble. An Argentinian conductor, harpsichordist and composer, he has long been based in Geneva, a city he considers his “second home”. He is also artistic director of the Namur Chamber Choir in Belgium.
His nomination for the Artist of the Year prize by the jury of the International Classical Music Awards was announced on Monday by the Cité Bleue, which expressed its pride in a press release. This 300-seat performance hall created by the Cité universitaire reopened its doors at the beginning of 2024 after more than two years of renovation work. It offers concerts, musical theater, operas and creations combining music and dance.

-The International Classical Music Awards also rewarded, among others, the Latvian violinist Gidon Kremer for his entire career as well as the cellist Benjamin Kruithof (Young Artist of the Year). Christoph Ehrenfellner won the Composer’s Prize. Special prizes are awarded to conductor Ádám Fischer, pianist Oliver Triendl and the Düsseldorfer Symphoniker. All awards will be presented at a ceremony on March 19 at the Tonhalle in Düsseldorf (D).
