American rapper Busta Rhymes accused of hitting his assistant ‘repeatedly’

The interpreter of Make It Clap was arrested on January 14 for assault on a fifty-year-old and will appear in court on February 3.

His interpretation of Break Ya Neck (“twist the neck”, in French) crossed the boundaries of the stage. American authorities said Friday, January 17, that they had arrested rapper Busta Rhymes, accused of hitting a man « in the face several times ». The facts date back to January 10, date on which the artist was allegedly involved in a « verbal disputes » with a fifty-year-old in a building in the Dumbo neighborhood of Brooklyn.

The victim, who was transported to hospital in a « stable state »would have suffered from a « swelling on the left side of the face », as a spokesperson for the New York Police Department told the PA news agency. She allegedly called the police to « harassment » around 10 a.m.

Quoting « police sources »the American media TMZ suggests that the fifty-year-old is an acquaintance of rapper Busta Rhymes. He would even be his assistant, Dashiel Gables. The artist then allegedly attacked him because he was calling during his working hours.

An investigation was opened and Trevor Smith Jr (real name) was arrested on Tuesday January 14 for third-degree assault (Third-Degree Murder). If convicted, this offense – considered a misdemeanor – carries a prison sentence of up to one year in New York State. The 52-year-old artist is expected to appear in court on February 3, the Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office said.
