“I regret not having given more time to the theater”

The day after the premiere of the tour The Note, at the Chaville theater (92), Sophie Marceau met journalists from the regional press in a private room of the Parisian restaurant La Gaillon. An intimate meeting, in a subdued atmosphere, like the play produced by Richard Caillat and which she shares with François Berléand, after twelve years of absence on the stage.

The Note, it is the one that Julien, renowned psychoanalyst and husband of Maud, did not leave to his wife before his suicide attempt interrupted by her arrival. The Note, it is also the world of Maud, a renowned pianist, confronted with this drama which requires re-attuning ourselves to life, to others, to ourselves and to writing a new score. This “boulevard tragedy” as described by the author and director, Audrey Schebat, addresses existential questions, with dialogues tinged with psychoanalysis and philosophy, and covered with a cloud of humor. How to be satisfied with your life, as a Individual and couple, how to get along with yourself? A vast subject that Sophie Marceau has agreed to look into.

Why such a late return to the theater?

I realized recently that I haven’t been to the theater in over twelve years, which is huge. I don’t know why, I think they didn’t make the right offers to me. It’s really a question of meeting people. And then, there, I have time, I don’t have any cinema projects at the moment (the filming of Lol 2 starts in May after the tour, editor’s note). So it’s good to take this time to do theater. And I regret not having taken it more often.

You didn’t dare?

Perhaps I felt a lack of legitimacy in the sense that I did not choose this profession. Maybe it bothers other people too, not just me. And then there is a lack of theater education, I didn’t dare to get started, even though I could see myself acting on stage very well!
