“Diddl is back”: the star mouse of playgrounds makes its big comeback in

Fifteen years after his death, Diddl should return to next fall for a new collection which should delight nostalgic fans.

Prepare your binders! The Kontiki company announced the return of the famous Diddl brand to France in October 2025, marking the end of fifteen years of absence. An announcement relayed by Les Echos this Thursday, January 16.

If you grew up in the 1990s, you couldn't have missed this “Diddl-mania”. Created in 1990 by German illustrator Thomas Goletz, this adorable mouse – accompanied by his faithful companions Didlina and Galupy – has been available in a myriad of products. Soft toys, figurines, but above all the essential scented writing paper, which was all the rage in the playgrounds.

Much more than a mouse, “an intergenerational link”

At the height of its popularity, Diddl was much more than a simple mascot: in 2004, the brand's turnover reached 150 million euros, propelled in particular by the launch of an eponymous magazine. But in the 2010s, Diddl's popularity waned. In 2014, the Despeche company ended the distribution of the brand.

After nearly ten years of hibernation, the famous mouse is preparing to return to our lives. This Thursday, January 16, at the Maison et Objets show in , the Kontiki company announced the launch of a new collection, planned for fall 2025. Available in a selection of partner boutiques and on an online store, this collection titled “Diddl is back” is aimed as much at nostalgic people as at the younger generation.

“Relaunching Diddl in France is an adventure that is particularly close to our hearts,” declared the CEO of Kontiki. “This timeless brand has left its mark on millions of French people. We are proud to support it in a new stage of its history. The objective is to bring together early fans and allow a new generation to discover this tender universe and colorful.”

In fact, nostalgic fans should be delighted since the new collection will offer flagship products from the era: soft toys to put on bags, glosses, writing products and stationery.
