(Keystone-ATS) The Turkish-American artist used more than 100 million archive images and more than 10 million images of glaciers from Iceland, Greenland and Antarctica, the Kunsthaus said on Thursday.

The artificial intelligence (AI) system programmed by the artist generates a gigantic quantity of new images. The LED screens and mirrors installed in the exhibition space constitute a cube. They allow the work to be perceived as a global sculpture, from the outside, as well as to be seen from the inside.

The immersive installation appeals to all the senses and aims to encourage reflection on climate change and melting glaciers. Offered to the Kunsthaus by the private bank Julius Bär, “Glacier Dreams” was presented in 2023 in Basel, during the Basel fair. It is now part of the collection of the Zurich museum.

Born in 1985 in Istanbul, Refik Anadol is considered a pioneer of art based on AI technologies. His works have already been shown at the Museum of Modern Art, in New York, and at the Center Pompidou, in , among others.
