The designer of The Scarlet Rose died at 47

When the first volume of “The Scarlet Rose” was released in 2005, the resemblance to the cartoon “Lady Oscar” was not a coincidence. Its author, Patricia Lyfoung, was a fan and, after working in animation, it was this type of universe that she wanted to turn to with her first comic book.

Today, this swashbuckling series, with graphics close to Japanese animation, has 21 volumes and two parallel series drawn by other authors. But Delcourt Editions announced that the Frenchwoman of Laotian origin died on January 15 at the age of 47.

“With nearly 60 titles published in our house, she has left her mark on generations of readers. Its longtime editor, Thierry Joor, would like to salute an exceptional artist, endowed with a rare talent for telling stories that transcend ages and cultures. His ability to mix Franco-Belgian influences and mangas has helped to evolve the codes of contemporary comics and opened the way to a new generation of authors. The disappearance of Patricia Lyfoung leaves a huge void in our house and in the world of comics.

Patricia Lyfoung is also at the origin of the concept of “Mythics”, another series which has won over a large audience. She was among the artists invited to the next Angoulême festival which will be held on January 29.
