Jane’s Addiction Apologizes for Singer-Guitarist Fight, Cancels Upcoming Show

The images have been making the rounds on social media. Perry Farrel, lead singer of the American metal band Jane’s Addiction, came to blows with the band’s famous guitarist, David Navarro, during their concert in Boston on Friday evening, September 13.

The footage shows the creator of the Lollapalooza festival, while the band was performing “Ocean Size”, being overcome with anger and coming to jostle Dave Navarro with his shoulder, before delivering another blow. Restrained by the other members of the band, Perry Farrell was quickly taken by force off stage, causing the interruption of the concert in front of a crowd left in incomprehension.

After a day without any news, the group took to social media on Saturday evening to apologize to fans and to announce the cancellation of the concert scheduled for this Sunday evening in Bridgeport, Tennessee.

“We want to extend our sincere apologies to our fans for the incident that occurred last night. As a result, we will be canceling tomorrow night’s show in Bridgeport,” the band simply wrote, while providing information on ticket refunds.

“Perry has lost his mind”

Before this apology, Etty Lau Farrell, Perry Farrell’s wife, published a long message on Instagram in which she tries to explain what happened on stage, first mentioning the tensions that reign within the group lately. “It is clear that there was a lot of tension and animosity between the members. (…) Perry’s frustration had continued to grow, night after night, he had the impression that the volume on stage was extremely high and that his voice was drowned out by that of the group,” she first tries to explain.

“Perry suffered from tinnitus and a sore throat every night,” she continued. “But when the audience in the front row started complaining to Perry and swearing that the band was playing too loud and they couldn’t hear him, Perry lost it,” his wife later explained.

While this Sunday’s date has been cancelled, the group has not yet communicated regarding the numerous dates planned for September and October, in several American and Canadian cities, starting with Toronto on Wednesday, September 18.
