Lidl, this German giant that no longer needs any introduction with its slashed prices, continues to pull out all the stops in France. With a strong plan for store openings for 2025, the brand wants to show that it weighs heavily in the discount world here. This muscular strategy aims to outsmart competitors like Aldi and satisfy the ever-increasing expectations of the French in terms of choice and proximity.
Which cities will welcome a new Lidl in 2025?
Lidl has lifted the veil on the opening of ten new stores in France from here 2025marking a new stage in its expansion in our territory. These new locations will be in key cities such asAurillac, Lyon et Rennes. The store planned in Rennes will be truly impressive since it will become the largest Lidl in Brittany with its 2000 m². And it doesn't stop there, because other openings are already in the pipes until 2026.
Calendar wise: go to Aurillac (Cantal) in June 2025, then direction Blangy-sur-Bresle (Seine-Maritime) for the end of 2025, and heading towards Beynost (Ain) from February 2025. In Brumath (Bas-Rhin), residents will be able to discover their new store in 2025, while Lamalou (Hérault) will open its Lidl on February 12, 2025. And finally, the seventh arrondissement of Lyon will also be entitled to its point of sale before December 2025.
A solid track record for over thirty years
It all started for Lidl in France with the opening of its first store in Sarreguemines in 1989. Since that time, the brand has continued to grow, today counting more than 1580 stores everywhere in France. This growth shows not only the commercial success of the group but also its ability to meet the varied needs of French consumers.
In addition to the ten new openings planned for 2025, Lidl plans around fifty other additional stores by 2026thus expanding an already well-stocked network and consolidating its place among the big names in the discount sector.
Game-changing innovations
Lidl is not just expanding its network; it also innovates to attract more and more customers. In Oullins-Pierre-Bénite, an atypical store will reopen its doors in December 2024 after having been renovated with eco-friendly technologies. This place will be equipped with 800 m² solar panels and will even offer terminals to recharge your electric cars! These initiatives clearly show that Lidl takes its ecological commitment seriously.
And meanwhile among our Belgian neighbors, Lidl is also planning a few similar inaugurations, thus underlining its desire to expand its international presence while meeting local expectations.
A future full of promise
The largest Lidl store in France was opened in Nanterre (Hauts-de-Seine) during the summer of 2022 with a staggering surface area of 2350 m²proving that the group knows how to invest in modern and spacious infrastructure to pamper its customers.
These initiatives clearly show that Lidl is not there just to expand its network but wants to offer innovative services and respond to current environmental challenges. For us French consumers, that means even more affordable options without compromising on quality or ecology. With all these ambitious projects, we can say that Lidl is ready to shake up the discount food retail landscape in France in the coming years!
