It's official! Arcom, the audiovisual regulator, approved, this Monday, January 13, 2025, the new numbering of channels on DTT which will come into force in two stages this year. If the first effects will be visible to the viewer from Friday February 28, 2025 at midnight, the date on which C8 and NRJ 12 will bow out, the new numbering will take place on Thursday June 6, 2025.
The France Télévisions group reunites with France 4 on channel 4, LCP-Public Senate takes over channel 8 from C8
With the resumption of frequencies and its consequences with the arrival of two new entrants, the numbering project has been extended to all TNT channels. Even more so with the surprise departure of Canal+ from channel 4 after more than 40 years of presence. This will be compensated, Thursday June 6, 2025 (“D-Day of the new numbering according to Roch-Olivier Maistre), with the arrival of France 4, Arcom announced this Monday. The France Télévisions channels will thus follow one another from channel 2 to channel 5.”It is a choice that allows us to promote the youth and cultural offerings carried by the France 4 channel.“, indicated Roch-Olivier Maistre, president of Arcom, who clarified that the choice to position France 4 on channel 4 was economically neutral for private channels.
It remains to be seen whether the public channel's leap forward in numbering will be accompanied by an editorial and/or identity change given that the France 4 brand is today simply used during the broadcast of sporting events. . Channel 14 is occupied during the day by Okoo, France Télévisions' youth offering, and in the evening by Culturebox, the group's cultural offering embodied by Raphäl Yem and Daphné Bürki. The journalist and presenter, face of Canal+ between 2004 and 2011 and 2012 and 2016, will make her return to channel 4.
LCP-Public Senate, channel 13 today, also joins the top 10 and recovers channel 8, vacant after the non-renewal of C8. Still in this logic of thematic block, the parliamentary channels can have a “additional programming” with Arte which precedes them. The public channels are therefore the winners of this game of musical chairs since of the first 8 DTT channels, 6 are occupied by public channels.
BFMTV, CNews, LCI and Franceinfo follow one another from channel 13 to channel 16
Beyond the top 10, Gulli, visible on channel 18 today, inherits channel 12 from NRJ 12. Positioned in front of the news channels, the M6 group's youth channel will gain exposure and will be positioned behind TFX, which has also intended to address a young audience. To the great dismay of BFMTV and CNews, Arcom subsequently materialized the block of news channels requested by the TF1 and France Télévisions groups. In the same order as today, BFMTV, CNews, LCI and Franceinfo will be visible from channel 13 to channel 16. Objective, according to Arcom: “offer simplified and fluid access to a pluralistic offer of information” to viewers, according to Arcom.
For CStar, nothing changes. The channel, which could host “Don’t touch my TV!” once the C8 signal is cut, is maintained on channel 17 while CMI TV, code name of the channel financed by Daniel Kretinsky (“Marianne”) selected in July 2024, will begin on Thursday June 6, 2025 – three months later than expected – its story on channel 18. The launch of Ouest France TV, the second new entrant on the market, will take place on Monday September 1, 2025 on channel 19, which will therefore come back to life after the disappearance of France Ô in 2020 and the ephemeral Culturebox in 2021.
The other channels remain unchanged: TF1 Séries Films, L'Équipe, 6ter, RMC Story, RMC Découverte and Chérie 25 will follow one another from channel 20 to channel 25. If custom dictates that new entrants inherit the last available channels, this numbering didn't want “prejudge” of the process of bringing back into play the frequencies of the TNT 3 block in 2027 (TF1 Séries Films, L'Équipe, 6ter, RMC Story, RMC Découverte and Chérie 25), which will begin in the second half of 2026.
