A focus on second-hand dealers

The exhibition entitled “The second-hand dealer and the object” was inaugurated on Saturday evening at the Esperluète bookstore. It is presented by Nathalie Bleton, amateur photographer, visual artist and applied arts teacher. Thirty-nine black and white photos are to be discovered during the month of January.

“I rediscovered my taste for objects”

This exhibition features portraits of second-hand dealers from here and elsewhere, each carrying an object of their choice. “This exhibition was born from my passions, photography and flea markets. The idea is to capture, in the time of a photograph, a moment that will soon belong to the past, and to tell the story of a special relationship between a second-hand dealer and an object,” confides the photographer.

Having gone to meet second-hand dealers in , (), (Haute-Garonne), Saint-Ouen (Seine-Saint-Denis), and even in Bulgaria and Latvia, for three years, Nathalie Bleton meeting enthusiasts of the life of objects. She even bought the frames that support her photos at flea markets.

The photographer adds: “When I was little, I accompanied my parents to flea markets. At the time, I didn’t like it at all. Growing up, I rediscovered the taste for the object and what it has around it. For this exhibition, I questioned second-hand dealers about why they chose this profession. Then I photographed them, each with a chosen object. What is very interesting here is that the second-hand dealer brings his object to life through his story. »

Nathalie Bleton also explains her choice of black and white rather than color: “Black and white gives a timeless side to the object. The eye really focuses on the character and the object, there is nothing interfering with the image, unlike the color version. »
