Auch: the Griot Blanc theater reads Louise Michel on January 20

As part of its monthly readings, the Griot Blanc theater wanted to honor Louise Michel, “grandiose figure of our history” and tragic heroine of the Commune, “whose death was not wanted”. The decision to dedicate the first reading of the year to him, on Monday January 20 at 5:30 p.m. at the Cuzin center, was reinforced by the fact that his memory is coming back to the forefront.

In recent years, his writings have been studied in depth, collected, clearly established and “ridden of many of the distortions that had been made to them”. The complete edition of his Memoirs from which the theater drew his texts dates from 2024. The France Culture program “Le souffle de la pensee” devoted a fascinating program to him in November. During the presentation of her film on the life of Olympe de Gouges, Julie Gayet confided that she was considering putting Louise Michel in the spotlight in the future.

Through the reading of her memoirs, the Griot Blanc theater wants to highlight the “exceptional human quality of Louise Michel”, who “hates the injustice and violence done to those who have nothing by those who monopolize All”. A contemporary specialist in her work, Claude Rétat presents it as follows: “We discover a Louise Michel who is by turns a mischievous adolescent, a feminist teacher, a certified revolutionary, deported to New Caledonia, an anarchist fighter, passionate about art and science, enthusiastic about nature…” A Louise Michel with rich thoughts, strong words, simple and direct writing, keen sensitivity, “intrepid conscience”.
