Revel. “Zazie in the metro” with the film club

For its first screening of the year, on Sunday January 12 at 8:30 p.m., the Revel Les Z’allucinés film club is offering a great classic of French cinema: “Zazie dans le métro” by Louis Malle. This irreverent adaptation of Raymond Queneau’s novel promises to delight fans of offbeat comedy and pop aesthetics.

Synopsis : Released in 1960, this first color film from the director follows the tribulations of Zazie, a sassy little girl played by Catherine Demongeot. Coming to spend a few days in with her uncle Gabriel (Philippe Noiret), she dreams of taking the metro, but a strike prevents her from doing so. Far from being discouraged, Zazie sows discord in the capital, meeting wacky characters, from a lemon seller with his parrot to a widow dressed in purple. Louis Malle here creates a work combining daring editing with tasty dialogues, where Queneau’s puns come to life through slow motion, fast motion and visual gags reminiscent of the world of cartoons. Between social satire and praise of childish spontaneity, the film explores the gap between the view of children and the hypocrisy of adults, a recurring theme in Louis Malle’s filmography. Upon its release, the film won over emblematic figures like Truffaut, Ionesco and Chaplin, while Queneau himself praised the originality of the adaptation. This screening will be an opportunity to rediscover a flagship work of the New Wave, driven by memorable interpretations and unparalleled visual energy.

General meeting of the club

The session will be followed by the annual general meeting of the film club. The Z’allucinés also announced their next screening for Sunday February 12 with “La Chimère” by Alice Rohrwacher, a poetic contemporary drama.

Film club membership cards are available at the cinema box office.
