The French actor, Oscar winner in 2012 for The Artistreturns to the big screen next October to play a tiny man according to a photo shared on January 9 on his social networks.
At 1.36 meters tall, he had already appeared “very small” in A man up to the task (2016), alongside Virginie Efira. On October 29, Jean Dujardin will only be a few centimeters tall in the film adaptation of Richard Matheson’s novel, A shrinking manpublished in 1956. Twenty years later 99 francsthe Frenchman, Oscar for best actor in 2012 with The Artsistfinds director Jan Kounen to play this character who begins to shrink after an unexplained meteorological phenomenon.
On these social networks, the star of OSS 117 shared a first image from the adventure film where we see him tiny, trying to climb what looks like a sort of wooden table leg. Because in the story of The Shrinking Manthe miniaturized character finds himself trapped by accident in his own cellar. He then tries by all means to survive this deadly environment and find an escape.

The “dream” of Jean Dujardin
It is also Jean Dujardin who is at the initiative of this new film. In an interview with First Jan Kounen confided in December that the actor « dreamed of doing again The Shrinking Man […] for years ». He therefore joined forces with another trusted man, in the person of Alain Goldman – with whom he has already worked on the series Alphonse (2023) and movies 99 francs et La French– to produce it.
In 1957, a first cinema version of Richard Matheson’s novel was released. That of Jean Dujardin will therefore be the second after that produced by the American Jack Arnold. But Jan Kounen does not intend to copy and paste it. « I see our version more as a readaptation of Richard Matheson’s book than as a remake of the filmhe reminded First. We included a lot of important elements that were only in the book –which I had never read. On the other hand, we kept the linear structure of the film, the novel being told with a “split” chronology… »
