In this emblematic play, we follow the intersecting destinies of deeply human characters, their aspirations, their failures and their quests for meaning. The story takes place in a Russian countryside, where theatrical ambitions, family tensions and romantic passions intertwine. Konstantin, a young playwright in search of recognition, is in love with Nina, an aspiring actress fascinated by Trigorin, a famous writer and lover of Arkadina, Konstantin’s mother.

A Seagull, certainly the author’s most performed play, is constantly taken up, translated and adapted. The play, however, had experienced a disastrous failure at its creation, only to then triumph in a staging of Stanislavsky at the Moscow Art Theater. It returns today performed by the talented troupe of the Comédie-Française. Tickets are on sale from January 23 at 11 a.m. for places at the 2024-2025 Card rates and Tuesday January 28 at 11 a.m. for general public places.
Anton Tchekhov is recognized for transforming modern literature and theater through a refined style rooted in naturalism. He began his career writing humorous short stories for newspapers, but quickly stood out with richer and more nuanced works.
