Barry Keoghan: Me a dancer? I’m terrible!

Considered one of the best Irish actors of his generation, Barry Keoghan returns to the cinema in “Bird” which has just been released in cinemas. If he refuses to talk about his private life after the announcement of his separation from Sabrina Carpenter, the 32-year-old actor enjoys the videos, which exceed millions of views on the internet, where we see him dancing in his films.

How can we introduce “Bird” to our readers?

I play Bug who raises his two children alone in a squat in the suburbs of London, in the south of England. It is a region that is very beautiful, but also very difficult to live in for those who do not have resources. Bug is an unstable guy who is far from being a great father, but he is full of tenderness. The story of this man has something familiar from what I saw or experienced in my youth.

Did you accept this role because of the similarities it has with your private life??

I’m not here to talk about my private life and even less about my childhood (editor’s note, his mother died of a heroin overdose when he was 12). He lived with his younger brother, Eric, in foster families throughout his adolescence). You will find enough details about me on the internet. Don’t count on me to add more.

Sequences from films where you dance create buzz on social networks. Did you dream of being a dancer before becoming an actor?

Me a dancer? I’m terrible! But I’m not afraid to move in front of the cameras, because I think that the gestures of the movements are something important in all my characters, so yes, dancing, even if I’m far from being a pro, that enters into the discovery of a role on screen. is of great importance to me, but also to Andrea Arnold, the director of “Bird,” who gave me entire playlists to help me embody this young dad. We had huge speakers on set with loud music playing almost constantly. It is a good source of energy.

Is dancing a way to let off steam?

For that, I would say that boxing is my passion. This allows me to both channel my energy and let off steam during a workout.

You dance, but you also sing in “Bird”…

Before you even ask me the question, I can tell you that no, I have no intention of launching a career as a singer. But I have the impression that musicals have become more and more fashionable in recent years and I wouldn’t be at all against a proposal in that genre.

Rumor has it that you are going to play Ringo Starr in a film about the life of the Beatles, correct?

I have no idea what you’re talking about (laughing).
