After the appointment of François Bayrou as Prime Minister, numerous political reactions quickly followed. Singer Renaud was also questioned about the arrival of the mayor of Pau in Matignon.
He is one of the most popular French artists. Author, composer and performer, Renaud seems unbeatable in the hearts of the public. A voice recognizable among all, sharp lyrics, sometimes committed, with themes sometimes light, sometimes serious, also make him one of the most prolific French singers: nearly twenty studio albums for more than twenty million 'copies sold. Questioned by Le Parisien after a tour of 131 concerts, the artist gave his opinion on politics in France. “Bayrou Prime Minister, what do you want me to think? Politicians have disgusted me. I prefer to write humanitarian songs,” he replied dryly.
If, during the presidential election in 2022, Renaud had announced his choice of candidate (Philippe Poutou, of the New Anticapitalist Party), the musician has been more discreet since. “Politics no longer interests me at all,” he said in a previous interview in 2023 with the newspaper. “The political class despairs me, I no longer even want to criticize it.” The singer even said he regretted having voted for Emmanuel Macron in the second round of the presidential election in 2022 but, “faced with Le Pen, (he) had no choice.”
Renaud could leave France
In the event that Marine Le Pen is elected President of the Republic in 2027, the 72-year-old singer would choose to leave France. “It worries me. But what reassures me is that I will always be able to go and live in Quebec,” he said in an interview with the Quebec newspaper Le Devoir. Words that say a lot about his position against the RN led by Marine Le Pen and her protégé, Jordan Bardella.
