“If someone had told me, fifteen years ago, that one day I would say “Thank you Bayrou”, I would not have believed it at all,” rit Thomas Louise. This Le Havre singer-songwriter “left” just released the teaser for his single “Eating soft caramels with François Bayrou” which will be released on January 6, 2025.
News that he had to announce a little hastily. The 43-year-old from Normandy had put an Advent calendar in the Modem colors online. Boxes where we see the latter eating soft caramels in different positions.
That of the 24th, Christmas Eve, was to reveal the surprise of the release of this unusual single but the appointment of François Bayrou as Prime Minister on Friday December 13 turned everything upside down: “I couldn't keep it up any longer until the 24th. When Emmanuel Macron announced the news, I said to myself, 'But no, it's so good. This coincidence of the calendar is amazing.”
Indeed, it's a nice coincidence because in reality, Le Havre started working on this song in 2007 when François Bayrou, then president of Modem, ran for the presidential election: “I don't share his political ideas but at the time people around me were starting to believe in him, to have sympathy for him. But he was always third, there it was behind Nicolas Sarkozy and Ségolène Royal . So let's say that I had a little tenderness for this guy who was always in failure.”
Little by little, he wrote this song about the center-right politician. He struggles to find a title until this, one might say, strange dream:
One night I had a dream. I was on a mountain looking at the landscape with François Bayrou and we were eating soft caramels. Yeah it's strange. You have to ask my psychologist why!
He adds with a smile: “It made me laugh. I said to myself that “Eating soft caramels with François Bayrou” is a great title. So I started writing the lyrics but it took me years.”
This song, Thomas Louise sometimes sang it during concerts “but it was not known in my repertoire”. For years he was the leader of the group A Suit for Two.
He is now going solo and decided to have fun with this single. And it was only eight months ago that he recorded this song with an electropop tone in the studio: “And eat soft caramels with François Bayrou. Walk around the Île de Ré with our RTT. But we don't know if it's bad luck to have crossed paths with Jean-Marc Ayrault”, can we listen?
A song with wacky lyrics that is so timely: “I have always seen Bayrou as a loser and it makes me laugh so much to take advantage of his consecration”, Thomas Louise tells us. “I still don't share his ideas. I wish him courage because deep down, I don't think that as a consecration he wanted that and at that moment. He got himself into a real mess.”
For fans and fans, the single will be available to discover in full from January 6 on music platforms: “I admit that I preferred to reveal the surprise now. You never know… If it turns out, at the beginning of January, Bayrou will no longer be Prime Minister and I will no longer be up to date”, jokes Le Havre.
