Phil Collins has opened up about the pain his body endured for years from drumming.
The 73-year-old singer, considered one of the greatest drummers of all time, is now feeling the physical consequences of his many years behind the drums.
In a 2022 interview with drumrecently revealed in the documentary Phil Collins : Drummer Firstthe star discusses her new relationship with the instrument.
“If I can’t do what I did as well as I did it, I’d rather relax and do nothing,” he admitted. “If I wake up one day and I can hold a pair of chopsticks, then I’ll try.” But I feel like I’ve used up my air miles.”
The musician suffers particularly in his hands and legs.
“It’s still a little difficult to accept,” he admitted. “I’ve spent my whole life playing drums. Not being able to do it all of a sudden is a shock.”
His son, Nic Collins, also appears in the documentary and reveals that his father had to undergo “major neck surgery, the result of all those years of playing drums and poor posture.”
He also said the Genesis star suffered from foot drop, a condition where “one of his feet has no feeling,” forcing him to use a cane.
