The 32-year-old actress and model steps into the shoes of Elton John for a music video of the singer, recreating images from the 1970s.
A British supermodel in the shoes of a king of pop. Cara Delevingne plays Elton John in the singer’s new music video; this video published Wednesday December 18 serves as a new clip for Step Into ChristmasRocket Man’s Christmas hit from 1973.
The staging repeats that of the original clip: Cara Delevingne, dressed and styled like Elton John in the 1970s video, is in the studio. Positioned behind a piano and surrounded by a group, she sings the piece. Added to this are images showing the production team, wary of the young woman’s performance.
Chance meeting
As reported by the BBC, Elton John and Cara Delevigne met last summer at the Glastonbury festival. They then said to each other that they would like to work together, “if the right idea presented itself”.
“She’s hilarious, we both have a self-deprecating sense of humor,” says the 77-year-old singer.
When the idea for this new video from Step Into Christmas presents itself, Elton John sees it as “the perfect opportunity”: “Thank God Cara thought the same thing, because the result is great.”
“I hope that one day Elton will return the favor and agree to play me in my biopic, which is not yet in development, nor written, presented to a studio and financed,” jokes the model and actress of 32 years old, former face of Victoria’s Secret.
Holiday classic
When it was released in 1973, Step Into Christmas had charted at number 24 in the UK and reached number one on the US Christmas Songs chart. An end-of-year holiday classic across the Channel, it is currently ranked 15th there.
